Programs

  • Central Community Co-op: This co-op provides fresh fruits and vegetables to residents of the Central neighborhood and sponsors programs aimed at improving quality of life for its members, such as health and wellness screenings and nutrition classes. Membership in the co-op also entails reduced membership at the Tri-C Health and Wellness Center.
  • Choice Neighborhoods: This is a federally-sponsored grant program that CMHA applied for this fall. If awarded, CMHA and partners would use the grant to transform part of the Central neighborhood to improve education, housing, health and economic opportunities in the community and rebuild the Cedar Extension Estate project.
  • Cleveland Opportunity Corridor: This is a transportation and economic development project sponsored by the Ohio Department of Transportation that is aiming to connect the I-490 highway to the University Circle neighborhood through the “Forgotten Triangle” area of Cleveland.   • Cuyahoga County Healthy Home Initiative: This initiative offers free repairs to qualifying households that meet income guidelines and live in Cuyahoga County with: an infant under 1 year, a child under 16 years with asthma, or an adult 65 years or older with asthma/a chronic respiratory condition. To apply, see the Health Status/Eligibility Form.
  • East Central Townhomes Renovation: NLEH community partner Burten, Bell, Carr Development, Inc. is rehabilitating a E. 73 St./Central Ave. rowhouse to provide 8 three-bedroom, green apartments for low-to-moderate income families. The townhomes will be part of the East Central Model Block.
  • E-Jet, Inc: Eco Friendly Jobs, Employment and Training: E-Jet, Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides environmentally friendly jobs, employment and training consultation to individuals.
  • Firstbloom: First Bloom connects underserved kids with their national parks and plants the seeds of conservation. First Bloom youth are between 4th and 6th grade and through the program, engage in regular outdoor, hands-on activities in order to grow as people, and learn about the environment and their national parks. At the end of the program, the kids design and plant a native plant garden in a nearby national park showcasing their new found knowledge and hard work. First Bloom Registration Form
  • Green City Growers Cooperative: This is a co-op for residents of the Buckeye-Shaker, Central, East Cleveland, Fairfax, Glenville, Hough, Kinsman, and Woodland Hills neighborhoods that sustainably grows and markets fresh produce year-round and provides an employment/ownership opportunity for its members.
  • Lead Safe Living: The City of Cleveland Department of Public Health offers a grant for eligible households to have lead hazard control work performed on their homes. To apply, see the grant application.
  • Project Clean Lake: This clean water program is run by the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD) and involves the construction of large-scale sewage storage tunnels and increased water treatment plant enhancements in order to meet Clean Water Act regulations and improve the water quality of Lake Erie, which is disturbed by raw sewage overflowing into the lake during heavy storms.
  • Promise Neighborhoods: This is an initiative that seeks to create vibrant, thriving neighborhoods with strong schools and families that enable the community’s children to succeed in their education and careers. Efforts are currently underway to make the Central neighborhood a “Promise Neighborhood.” To read about the initiative’s goals, click here.
  • Rid-All Green Partnership Growing Power Regional Outreach Training Center: The Rid-All Green Partnership will strive to ensure that fresh food reaches all levels of community, leading to healthy families and healthy lifestyles. This will be achieved through thriving community partnerships and a commitment to excellence. The Rid-All ROTC and Greenhouse is located in the Urban Agricultural Innovation Zone in the forgotten triangle off of 82nd/Kinsman.
  • Sustainable Cleveland 2019: a 10-year initiative that engages people from all walks of life, working together to design and develop a thriving and resilient Cleveland region in order to build economic, social and environmental well being for all.
  • Urban Agriculture Training Programs: NLEH community partner Ohio State University Extension holds two urban agriculture training programs every winter for community gardening and market gardening. Check out the websites for information and applications.
